Six Top Tips For Menopause Acne

My friend Karen had always taken care of her skin. You know the sort of thing. Used good quality products, drank plenty of water, NEVER went to bed without taking off her make-up. She did absolutely everything by the book.

So nobody was more surprised than me – apart from maybe Karen herself – when she called one morning to tell me that she had found a pimple on her chin. Then she found another and another, until her forehead, nose and chin area were covered with an assortment of vicious looking spots, pimples and blackheads.

I used to work in the cosmetic and skin-care industry and so I know a little about these things. I helped Karen clear her skin and now I will pass on to you exactly what I told her:

Firstly, I think it is important to understand why menopause acne occurs in the first place.

Our skin is made up of thousands of sebaceous glands and each one produces sebum – which is a type of oil. The old skin cells are constantly dying off and renewing themselves, but the combination of the sebum and the dead cells can block the pores and cause pimples.

In the early stages of menopause, our estrogen levels may increase and this converts to testosterone – which creates even more nasty pore blocking oil.

Whiteheads get their name because they are actually filled with white pus and appear on the skin as a yellow, whiteish pimple. this is down to the bacteria – which lives off the oil – getting trapped along with the dead skin cells. This combination then turns into an infected spot.

Blackheads are similar, but they open slightly and the exposure to melanin turns them black.

These are the reasons why we suffer from menopausal acne and here are my top six remedies to get rid of it:

1. Practice relaxation techniques to reduce your anxiety levels and get your hormones under controls. They will have the added benefit of increasing your battered self-esteem and confidence.

2. Make sure that your diet includes plenty of fiber and calcium and keep your carbohydrate and sugar levels to a sensible level. Cakes are not your friend, as carbohydrates converts to insulin, which increases the amount of oil the skin produces.

3. Drink eight glasses of lovely, fresh water each day. Your skin and kidneys will thank you for it!

4. Exfoliate gently twice a week. Go easy on the scrubbing as being too heavy handed will stimulate the oil glands to produce even more oil. Acne is nothing to do with poor hygiene and so cleansing your face more than twice each day, will be of no benefit at all. Also tone and moisturise daily with fragrance free products.

5. Supplement your food intake with any vitamins and minerals that you feel may be lacking in your diet. This will not only boost your immune system but help to prevent excess oil.

6. Finally, if all this does not improve your acne, you may want to try a product that contains retinol.

Menopausal acne can really affect your confidence levels, but if these tips do nothing to improve your skin – I will be very surprised.

Teeth Whitening Problems

In today’s world people are often obsessed with the way they look.  People spend many hours in front of the mirrors to make sure they look perfect.  It is not a surprise that people look for the best way to whiten teeth.

I don’t believe there is a person who doesn’t care when his teeth are yellow and stained.  This makes most people ashamed. Teeth whitening is becoming more popular everyday and it will stay for a long time.

Teeth whitening services first appeared around ten years ago.   During the time, more affordable teeth whitening methods have developed.  A use of an over the counter whitening kit can whiten your teeth as a dentist would have done it.

There is a wide range of bleaching toothpastes, but those don’t provide the desired improvements.
The method that will provide the best whitening results is using products based on such effective chemical called hydrogen peroxide.  This is in fact the chemical that whitens the teeth.  Hydrogen peroxide is very powerful. If it is overused it can bring some side effect after using it.

One of the side effects is the sore throat.  When you use products that include hydrogen peroxide remember that this is a very strong chemical. Don’t try to swallow it because it will cause you a sore throat. You may also feel headaches from that. It may cause an unpleasant feeling inside the mouth.

Some people can expect an allergic reaction after using hydrogen peroxide. Most people will not be a victim of this side effect, however if you are unlucky you may feel uncomfortable for a little bit.

When you use products based on hydrogen peroxide it will get in contact with teeth in order to get whitened. Try to prevent contact with gums as they don’t need to be whitened and the gums by nature are sensitive and you can have a gum irritation.

If you overuse the hydrogen peroxide you risk damaging your teeth. It will harm the enamel of the teeth and they will be painful and sensitive.

Of course you can bleach the teeth safely with an at home whitening kit or opalescence teeth whitening system, if you take care of what you are doing.  A dentist will most likely provide you with best results without side effects as they are doing this for a living.

Common Symptoms of Deviated Septum

When the nasal septum is at the wrong side, this condition is called deviated septum.  The airways can be occluded causing other deviated septum symptoms.

The nasal septum is a structure inside the nasal area that divides the nostrils into two equal parts. This is formed by soft bones and cartilage making it easily manipulated or displaced at the wrong side especially when the person had an injury at the nasal area.

Most of the time, deviated septum does not cause significant changes to the total health of the person affected with the condition. Unfortunately, there are individuals who suffer the worse side of it. The deformity can cause life threatening symptoms prompting the need for deviated septum surgery.

Physical examination is needed to make the proper diagnosis. There are lighted devices and other equipments used to make the deformity visible.  Since one nostril is smaller than the other, this will cause nasal problems and inflammation that makes breathing difficult.

When the situation calls for deviated septum surgery, the doctor realigns the displaced septum and manipulates it to the center to bring back its normal position.  This is said to be the best solution to get rid of the deviated septum symptoms that oftentimes get unmanageable and pose greater risks in life.

In deviated septum, it is common to have increased nasal discharges brought by insufficiencies in expelling nasal secretions.  There is increased buildup of discharges inside the nose and causes more inflammation at the area.  Bleeding may occur because of dry nasal airways.  Post nasal discharges are also common as the secretions accumulate down the throat.

One of the significant symptoms in deviated septum is difficulty in breathing. The other nostril is impeded causing obstruction at the same time nasal congestion.  The misaligned nasal septum causes noisy breathing among children and as for adults, snoring and sleep apnea are common.  Some people have a bit of success using something along the line of a buckwheat pillow to help them sleep at night.

Pain is another culprit brought by the condition. Facial pain and headaches are remarkable as the nasal passages get inflamed. Sinus infections tend to be unrelieved despite of medications given to answer the problem.  Allergies and other nasal problems are increased as the airways get dry and inflamed.

Deviated septum symptoms bring significant changes in the lives of those affected with it.  They are given medications like antihistamines and analgesics only to alleviate the problems but do not offer permanent relief of the symptoms.  They reduce pain, inflammation and congestion to ease breathing.  Repair to the deviated septum is the only permanent solution for this condition and some people will have some sort of nose job or cosmetic surgery as part of the procedure.

Get Sensible about Sensitive Teeth

Everyone’s teeth are sensitive to some degree.  It is just the nature of teeth.  They have nerves and roots which are incredibly sensitive and near the surface which makes them all the more receptive to pain, temperature and other stimulants.

You have personal experience with this whenever you eat ice cream carelessly and a bit comes in contact with your teeth.  You instantly feel it and pull the ice cream away. Could you imagine feeling that sharp pain at all times or while doing the most mundane activities?

If you feel like you are suffering from a condition called hypersensitive teeth, you should contact your knowledgeable and local dentist in Georgetown and get your case diagnosed. As soon as you figure out what is wrong you can start the process to overcome this moderately common problem.

Among the various causes which lead to this painful condition are chipped or fractured teeth, receding gum lines, the loss of enamel, teeth grinding or bruxism, or the exposure of a tooth root. Any one of these or a combination of these could be the reason behind your sensitive teeth.

Proper and consistent oral hygiene is absolutely essential to preventing the development of this condition. If you fail to brush and floss regularly and religiously, you may find yourself with a problem which you would not even wish on your worst enemy. Also, if you fail to visit your Georgetown dentist at least once every six months, as recommended by the American Dental Association, you could be facing this problem and many more much worse.

If you have sensitive teeth there is hope and it is a treatable condition. Your dentist may suggest some special treatments or even maybe a special toothpaste which will help protect and strengthen your teeth and as a side effect you will most likely get whiter teeth as well. Call today and schedule an appointment to get all the details.
