Tips on Refrigerator Maintenance

The average life span of refrigerator is 15 years but such longevity can be even more improved if you know how to maintain your refrigerator.

Refrigerator maintenance does not only have to do with cleaning your fridge – even more important than this is to technically evaluate the ergonomic design of the fridge to ensure that you can improve the cooling efficiency and to extend the refrigeration service of your unit for more years. Even the best refrigerator brand must be maintained so there’s no reason why your fridge shouldn’t be.

Here are some of the tips that may prove helpful in maintaining your fridge. In any refrigerator review, these are highly suggested, if not firmly recommended.

o Don’t open the door frequently without any legitimate reason at all. It will only affect the cool air circulation inside the fridge, which can lead to temperature fluctuation that can ultimately affect the quality of food preservation. It can also cause odor transfer as well.

o Always clean the door seal regularly and make sure it’s still tight. This will limit the moisture that will breed inside the fridge.

o When frost accumulates at 5 mm, then it’s high time to defrost. Cooling capacity and efficiency will be affected if you don’t defrost the fridge when you need to. The defrost system of your fridge can either be manual or frost-free / automatic.

o The coils at the back of the fridge should have proper airflow and so it’s important that there’s ventilation behind it. You can reduce the energy consumption of the refrigerator up to 15% if you don’t place the refrigerator flat on the wall. Also it’s important to clean the back of refrigerator from dust and cobwebs to maintain cooling efficiency.

o This is self-explanatory – clean the inside of the refrigerator regularly and store food in the right, appropriate places.

Spend A Little More Money For A KitchenAid Classic Mixer

kitchen aid artisan mixer

The best name in kitchen mixers is the KitchenAid mixer. There are several different models and several different options depending on what kind of baking or cooking you plan to do.

It’s always good to spend a little bit of extra money when it comes to your kitchen appliances. It allows you to buy appliances that are a little higher quality, have more functionality, and are much more durable than the competition.

So, you shouldn’t cheap out when it comes to buying a kitchen mixer.  The best name in kitchen mixers is the KitchenAid mixer.  There are several different models and several different options depending on what kind of baking or cooking you plan to do.

If you just need a basic kitchen mixer that is a quality machine, then you should consider the KitchenAid classic mixer. This is probably the cheapest KitchenAid mixer that you can get your hands on.

However, it contains all of the features that you really need or want in a solid mixer.  It has a high powered and durable motor.  It also has the signature mixing pattern that all KitchenAids have that allows the mixer to mix every single spot within the bowl, even including the edges of the bowl.

One of the main advantages of owning a KitchenAid mixer is the fact that you can set up the mixer to work by itself. That’s right, the bowl locks into the mixer and goes to work, while you are performing other kitchen functions.

If you decide that you need more power and more speed options, you might want to take a look at the KitchenAid artisan mixer.   This is a very serious mixer for those who love to cook and bake.

With such a powerful motor, you can do some really challenging doughs and tough breads that need to be kneaded before baking.  This is one tough mixer to add to your kitchen for tough cooking and baking. The mixers always look good sitting on your kitchen counter next to your Keurig K Cup Storage Stand and give your kitchen a warmer feel.

Zojirushi EC-BD15BA Review – High Quality Thermal Brewing

Zojirushi EC-BD15BA review

Hey all and welcome to this Zojirushi EC-BD15BA review.  Over the course of this relatively short review I will be attempting to inform you all of the key information regarding this coffee maker and hopefully allowing you to reach a point where you can decide whether this is the machine for you or not.

The Zojirushi is probably one of the better thermal carafe coffee makers available at the moment.

The majority of these carafes have absolutely terrible pour rates, and although this one is relatively slow I will gladly take a pour rate like this over a glass carafe any day of the week.

The problem with glass carafes, even though they have a great pour rate they burn coffee within minutes.  What is the point of brewing a 12 cup pot of coffee if we have to drink it in less than 30 minutes to stop a horrible deterioration of flavor?

Modern thermal carafes keep the coffee hot for hours on end, but also keep the coffee as fresh as if it had just been brewed. You can brew your coffee at 8 am and still have hot coffee at 3 pm, something pretty impressive right there.

After that I would quickly like to go over one of the few issues that this coffee maker has.  The pipe which runs from the heating element to the head runs directly through the water reservoir.   And while I think that this is one of those problems that “could” pose a big issue, it seems that as long as we are aware of the issue and take the proper precautions there shouldn’t really be any huge problems.

I would strongly recommend against using chilled water when you fill the reservoir.  Using water that is too cold will reduce the temperature of the water that is used during the brew and thus we will end up with worse tasting coffee.

Thanks for reading this Zojirushi EC-BD15BA review.

Get A KitchenAid Classic Mixer To Make Your Baking Life A Breeze

The KitchenAid classic mixer is like having a power tool in your kitchen. This thing has an incredibly powerful motor that will allow you to mix just about anything that you throw at it.

It is also completely controllable; you have the option to use 10 different speed options. It is just so functional that you just can’t help but be pleased with the KitchenAid classic.  The difference between the KitchenAid mixers and the traditional 2 egg beaters is the fact that these mixers grab and mix everything.   It even goes around the edges of the bowl so that you get a nice, complete, and even mix.

The best part of the mixer is the fact that you can turn it on and the mixing rotation allows it to get every single part of the bowl.  You don’t have to use a spatula and scrape the edges of the bowl like cheaper mixers that are out there. You can basically turn the thing on and let it go.  It allows you to turn your attention to something else in the kitchen and multi-task.

If you like the KitchenAid classic, then you might also like it’s more powerful sister the KitchenAid artisan. This happens to be a very popular model for those who love to bake.  When you are baking, you need a really powerful mixer like the KitchenAid mixers.  This is especially important when you are making thick dough for breads or bread products.

Not to mention, the KitchenAid gives you a lot more capacity that your traditional mixers. That way, you can make a lot at one time and maybe freeze some of your dough for a later time.   It’s better to get most of the work done in one setting than to have to go back and do it again in the future, just like when you are using a juice extractor.

The advantages and disadvantages of carbon water filters

Carbon is well known for is absorbent properties, and this is the reason why it is also used for absorbing impurities. Moreover, if the carbon is activated, a positive electro-charge is added to it. In fact, this is basically the way that carbon works to filter the water.

When the water passes through the positively charged carbon filter, the carbon granules are drawing the negative ions of contaminants to the surface. The carbon water filters are rated according to the size of the particles they can remove. Briefly, the more carbon the filter has, the better.

Good filters such as the Pentek water filters will always be able to remove virtually all of the volatile organic chemicals like pesticides, benzene, chlorine, herbicide and other solvents that are found in regular tap water. Pentek water filters however, just as not all the other carbon based filters will remove the heavy metals from the water. When the carbon is compacted, these filters are able to eliminate particles as small as 0.4 microns.

Once your water is filtered using a carbon filter, it will taste much cleaner and fresher. If you cannot smell any odor, this is another sign that you have clear and clean water.

Using carbon filtered water is more conveniently than purchasing bottled water, as it is a much cheaper option, but in the same time, you are provided with the same level of health safety.  However, keep in mind that most carbon water filters only last between 3 and 6 months, so you will have to replace them regularly if you want to maintain a good quality water.

Another downside of the carbon filters is that they are not usually effective in removing the dissolved inorganic contaminants like minerals, salt, nickel, fluoride, arsenic, nitrates, mercury, and so on. The good news however is that it reduces successfully removes the chemical compound called Trihalomethanes, which is known for causing cancer.
